Whilst much of the rhetoric of contemporary Australian culture circulates around its multicultural diversity, the reality is often very different. There is a distinct lack of Asian-Australians on our screens, and a perceived hesitation to represent Australia’s unique migrant stories in our popular culture.

Griffith Asia Institute Research Seminar: Assessing Destination Country Labour Migration Regimes in Asia: An Integrated Approach

In a presentation of her research paper, Michele Ford, Professor of Southeast Asian Studies and Director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, University of Sydney, proposes an integrated approach that positions migration and employment relations as mutually constituting axes of a country-specific labour migration regime that determines the extent to which migrant workers can operationalize their labour rights, including access to representation by a trade union.
