Professor Gerald Thiel is Professor of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical Faculty of Saarland University, Germany. His presentation discusses research relating to intracellular signaling cascades associated with TRP channels, the current state of investigations as well as the roles of TRP channels in regulating pain sensation, insulin secretion and tumorigenesis.

He is also interested in immuno-pharmacology and the design of anti-inflammatory drugs, high resolution optical techniques for cell signaling research and research in medical education.
