Publishing from case studies

Publishing from case studies

Principal speaker

Associate Professor Keith Townsend

Abstract: Research can be divided in to two types – good research, and bad research. Or is it qualitative research and quantitative research. Or perhaps the two types are ‘PUBLISHED’ research and not-published research.
In research that is focussed around people management – regardless of the discipline, OB, IR, HRM or others, there are many common exclamations heard from flustered academics – but when it comes to publishing, some include:

“But all the journal rankings favour journals from other disciplines”; and
“But those big US journals only publish quantitative work”; and
“My research isn’t seen as a ‘sexy’ topic for editors”

Sure, all of these might be true, but let’s face it – a big part of our job is to do research and get it published.
This seminar will focus on what it takes to get qualitative, case study research published in good journals. If you want theory – stay in your office. If you want answers – stay in your office. If you want morning tea – come to the seminar and listen to some practical ideas about publishing that really interesting little case study you’ve left in the second drawer for far too long.
