Perspectives Asia- India Large and Small: Contemporary  Indian culture in the world

Shubha Mudgal

Through the fields of music, film and architecture, panellists will examine the changing nature of contemporary Indian identity, and how Indian culture has become a major force internationally. Is there a growing push for a broad idea of national identity, or are local and regional cultures asserting a greater presence?

Ms Shubha Mudgal, Khyal singer: Born into a musically dedicated family, Shubha Mudgal has been trained by some of the finest musicians and musicologists in India and is a versatile and popular performer. She has also won recognition as a composer and is the recipient of numerous awards and has been closely involved with several projects related to music education in India.

Dr Anupama Kundoo, Senior Lecturer, School of Architecture, University of Queensland: Her innovative approach to architecture is supported by extensive research and experimentation from the development of building technologies to building prototypes that are environmentally sound and socio-economically beneficial. Dr Kundoo has had the experience of working, researching and teaching in a variety of cultural contexts across the world: Mumbai, Auroville, Barcelona, Berlin, London, and New York.

Mr Anupam Sharma, Director, Films & Casting TEMPLE: Appointed as one of the Ambassadors for Australia Day 2013 and nominated as one of the 50 most influential professionals in Australian film industry by ENCORE magazine, Anupam Sharma is a film maker, author, and an international consultant on Indian cinema. In addition to being the chief judge and advisor to the reality show BOLLYWOOD STAR SBS (TV) Anupam has lead a team of film professionals to work on more than 206 projects.
