The annual Leader’s Lecture is part of the Australia-China Futures Dialogues, a Griffith University initiative held in collaboration with Peking University and supported by the Queensland Government.

This partnership focuses on how the Asia Pacific region will evolve in the next twenty years and how this evolution can be shaped in the interests of regional countries.

About the Speaker

Mark McArdle was first elected to Queensland Parliament on 7 February 2004 as the Member for Caloundra. During his time in Parliament, the Minister has held many important positions including Leader of the Liberal Party and Deputy Leader of the Opposition following the merger in 2008 between the Liberal and National Parties.

After the successful election of the Liberal National Party to Government in 2012, Mark was appointed Minister for Energy and Water Supply.

The Minister is passionate about cost of living issues impacting Queenslanders and has initiated a reform program in the energy and water sectors. This includes creating a 30 Year Energy Strategy and a 30 Year Water Strategy to yield higher value from infrastructure assets. The creation of Inter-Departmental Committees for Energy and Water Supply, including an Independent Review Panel for electricity, is part of the Minister’s commitment to a long term reform process..
