Leader's Edge Lunch Series: 2013 Federal Election

Leader's Edge Lunch Series: 2013 Federal Election

Principal speaker

Lindsay Tanner MAICD

The Australian Institute of Company Directors and Griffith Business School Leaders’ Edge Lunch Series provides members and the Queensland business community with the opportunity to hear speakers of national and international standing share their experience and knowledge.

With the Federal election looming, we invite you to hear from two prominent and respected former politicians as they discuss the current political environment, key issues facing the country and potential outcomes post September 14.

Lindsay Tanner is the whistleblower on modern politics in the Labor era. He has revealed how spin outweighs substance in the political world and he has done so as an insider. A former finance minister and author of Sideshow – Dumbing Down Democracy, Tanner is credited with adding intellectual weight to the party as it faces its biggest electoral challenge. Tanner will talk about what went wrong, where the solutions lie and what path might lie ahead for the left side of politics.

Nick Minchin is the conservative conscience of the Liberal Party. When it flirted with waving through Labor’s carbon tax, Minchin intervened to force a change of policy and the party changed leaders. He occupied this role during the course of the Howard Government and will be as influential from the background in what could be an Abbott Government. Minchin
is a tough political operator who believes in traditional conservative values, the worth of the free market and Australian sovereignty. Now retired, he stays close to the action on the right side of politics.
