The GriffithBUSINESS program offers a series of Professional Development workshops to support you in providing a curriculum which is up-to-date with current practice.
Our Professional Development program provides significant linkages between the Queensland High School curriculum offered by the Queensland Studies Authority, and the tertiary environment.
Topic: Planning the Gold Coast's biggest event, the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
This presentation will cover what is involved in staging an event and the kinds of outcomes a host destination can achieve through effective strategic planning. It will focus on the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the biggest event the Gold Coast has attempted to host. It will provide an overview of what is involved - from compiling the bid, through to the organisation and potential legacies for our city and region.

Dr Millicent Kennelly is a Lecturer in the Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management at Griffith University, specialising in event and project management. Millicent has been researching and teaching in event management, with a specific focus on sport events, since 2004. Her teaching and research interests include: sport events, event management, project management, strategic engagement of event stakeholders, and leveraging events for tourism outcomes.
