The Seed Project

Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University ('The Con') and QPAC have partnered to seed the next crop of brilliant bands.

The Seed Project is QPAC’s newest free live music event and an ongoing fixture on the Brisbane live music scene. Bands that featured on the 2013 line-up have gone on to play major music festivals, win national music awards and attain steady on-air time, so its reputation as a gig that presents the next crop of accomplished music artists is growing.

All-girl pop-rap band Sneeky Picnic played 2014’s Gold Coast Big Day Out. Urban country rock artist Jared Porter, front man of The Jared Porter Band, went on to become the 2014 Toyota Star Maker at Tamworth’s Toyota Country Music Festival. Solid rockers The Orchard won The National Campus Band Competition. And GOVS continues to get consistent airtime on Triple J. All performed at 2013’s The Seed Project, and naturally audiences are expecting great things from the 2014 artists.

Artists come from The Con’s Bachelor of Popular Music (BPM) who have taken part in the Seed program. Seed is aimed at nurturing the immense talent from the course, which for more than a decade has launched the careers of gifted graduates hailing from the likes of The Delta Riggs, The John Steele Singers and Wolfmother. It’s an industry-first program that sees students’ original music produced through their BPM and released to the market through a dedicated compilation album aptly named Seed Vol. 1 and 2. In partnership with The Con, The Seed Project adds another layer to this program and offers artists a professional performance opportunity at QPAC with additional marketing and technical support.

In its third year, Seed Vol. 3 and this year’s season of The Seed Project will be officially launched at QPAC’s Melbourne Street Green on 20 June 2014.
