Research Presentation: Patterns of Domestic and Family Homicide : A Familiary Story

Principal speaker

Ms Susan Beattie

Presenter: Susan Beattie, Domestic Violence Death Review Unit, Office of the State Coroner, Queensland.   Domestic and family violence death review mechanisms are based on the premise that these fatalities are rarely without warning and are generally preceded by violent or abusive incidents indicating a heightened risk of future harm. It is because of these indicators that these types of deaths are considered some of the most preventable. Situated within the Office of the State Coroner, the Domestic and Family Violence Death Review Unit (DFVDRU) provides assistance to coroners in the investigation of homicides, murder suicides and suicides identified as being related to domestic and family violence.

Susan Beattie is a Principal Researcher and Coordinator with the DFVDRU . Her previous role was as a Senior Research and Policy Officer with the Queensland Police Service where she was required to respond to a wide range of drug and alcohol-related policy matters relevant to law enforcement
