Using Digital Profiling and Social Media to Enhance our Research Profiles: An Exploratory Workshop

Using Digital Profiling and Social Media to Enhance our Research Profiles: An Exploratory Workshop

Principal speaker

Professor Jeremy Williams

GSBRC is pleased to present this workshop which will focus on the questions of whether, why and how we – as academics involved in social, behavioural or humanities research – might use digital or social media in raising our profiles as researchers. Four researchers who have seriously considered such questions and become heavily involved in the use of these media – from a range of disciplinary backgrounds – will share their deliberations and experiences in doing so. Notions such as using ‘think aloud pieces’, the ‘digitally homeless’, ‘Yammer’, ‘Google Communities’, ‘Twitter’, ‘Facebook’, setting up blogs, ‘material semi-others’, and getting access to unpaid research assistants are likely to arise in the course of the workshop. There will also be a presentation on using the University’s new Scholars’ Hub, with ample time for questions, comments and discussion on any aspects of the topic.
