 Griffith University will host a final event for 2014 to share ideas, knowledge and experience in the lead up to the application of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Queensland. This is an opportunity to hear from and network with people with a disability, families, service providers and researchers in the sector.


Topics will include:

  • The NDIS in Queensland - Preparedness now and going forward
  • Citizenship and self-direction
  • Housing - Principles of house and home
  • Safeguards – ensuring a good life for everyone
  • How does the National Disability Strategy fit with NDIS implementation nationally and in QLD?


Keynote speakers:
Prof. Tim Stainton – University of British Columbia, School of Social Work
Tim Stainton is Director of the Centre for Inclusion and Citizenship, specialising in issues related to developmental disability and social policy. Tim has a long standing commitment to supporting the recognition of the rights of individuals and families and fostering full community membership. He has four children, one of whom lives with a developmental disability.


Dr Michael Kendrick – Kendrick Consulting, Massachusetts USA
Michael Kendrick is an independent international consultant in human services and community work with a focus on work in countries including the US, Australia and New Zealand. His writings include service quality, creating safeguards for vulnerable persons, social integration, change and reform in the human services field.

Other speakers include representatives of NDIA, people with disabilities, families and services providers
