Asian Century Future's Initiative - Indonesia Dialogue

Following the successful inaugural Australia-Indonesia Dialogue held at Griffith University in November 2013, Griffith and The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) are pleased to jointly host the 2nd Australia-Indonesia Dialogue in Jakarta, Indonesia on 25 November 2014.
The workshop will consist of two parts.
The first part will bring together experts from Indonesia and Australia to examine the public policy challenges associated with two major contemporary issues affecting both countries: climate change and urban development. An aim would be to formulate public policy and research ideas that can help contribute to better management of these challenges in Indonesia and Australia.
The second part will focus on political and economic relations between Australia and Indonesia, particularly in light of the recent election of Joko Widodo as the seventh President of Indonesia.
Griffith University has a long-established and respected public policy capacity in climate change and urban development across a range of disciplinary areas. In the contemporary context, these strengths are located most prominently in political science, economics, environmental and urban planning. LIPI also has scholars working in climate change and urban-related projects including urban regional development, disaster management and urban politics and public policy. Currently, under coordination of the Deputy for Social Sciences and Humanities, LIPI are working on issues related to globalization and global village phenomenon in Indonesia. In order to respond to changes brought by this phenomena, research in social sciences and humanities need to be strengthened. These include social, political and economic aspects of globalization.
Both institutions have extensive expertise in politics and economics, applicable to the bilateral relationship.
In addition to academics, the workshop will also involve Australian and Indonesian practitioners drawn from government and industry.
