Global Violence Hotspots: How to Focus Intervention and Prevention

Global Violence Hotspots: How to Focus Intervention and Prevention

Principal speaker

Susanne Karstedt

Reducing violence globally means reducing it in the global hot spots. What would be the overall impact on violence levels if hotspots are targeted? How responsive are hotspots to violence reduction programmes? This research is part of a WHO initiative to reduce violence globally by 50% in 30 years. Results from a unique data set of “Violent Societies” are presented, which combines types of organised and non-organised violence for 134 countries since 1976. The presentation will give an overview over hot spots in global regions and across decades. It will follow trajectories of countries, which were successful in reducing high-level violence, and look into corollaries of this process.
