Australia has persistently attracted foreign investment for over two centuries, yet foreign investment still remains a contentious policy issue, often interpreted simply as 'selling off the farm'. Although most economists, policymakers and the general public accept that freer international trade in goods and services benefits the Australian economy, such a consensus does not exist for international trade in capital.  At this symposium a panel of experts with related experience in industry and government will explore reasons for that, and whether Australia would be better served by attracting more foreign investment.
