Shannon Foley joined UnitingCare Queensland in July 2016. Shannon has held a number of senior leadership roles in a Human Resources career spanning almost two decades. She has led HR functions and HR teams in well-known organisations in Australia and overseas including Telstra, Telecom New Zealand, Vodafone New Zealand and Qantas. She has extensive experience in HR strategic partnering, organisational development, change management and culture transformation. Bruce Highfield is Executive General Manager HR and Safety for Olam’s operations in Australia and its Global Edible Nuts division across Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Bruce commenced his career in HR in predominately in Industrial Relations in at Altona Chemical Complex and two years with the London Underground. During his career he has held senior positions at Orica, General Manager of People at Virgin Blue and UK consulting firm MacDonald Associates. Bruce has consistently demonstrated his ability to deliver tangible bottom line results through his understanding of organisation design and human nature. Rebecca Loudoun is senior lecturer and Director of Engagement, Department of Employment Relations and Human Resources, Griffith Business School. Her 20+ years of experience researching and teaching in the area of health and safety include project managing an investigation into cardiovascular disease in the construction industry and its spin off research into hydration and energy drinks. Currently she is involved in an Australian Research Council Linkage project looking to improve people management systems for emergency services personnel and designing an intervention tool to assist an industry employer in their recruitment of workers who embody the organisation’s health and safety practices and principles. Peter Jordan (Moderator), Griffith Business School, is a Professor of Organisational Behaviour and does research on performance in work teams, the role of emotions in organisations, Emotional Intelligence, and leadership. Peter has published extensively in leading international journals on these topics and attracted significant Australian Research Council funding to support his research. He has significant experience consulting to organisations in the South East Asia Region.


Join the Griffith Business School Alumni Network and the research centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) for an informative and interactive expert panel. Workplace researchers and active industry human resource representatives will discuss the importance of organisational values in the recruitment and management of Australian workers.

Issues to be addressed may include:

• Organisational values and their role in employee recruitment, management, retention, performance and engagement.

• Establishing and maintaining an organisational value set for new and existing employees, and during organisational decision making.

• Whether the type of organisation matters when establishing values i.e. large, small and medium enterprise and not-for-profit business operations.
