Thinking and exploring midwifery development in China: from exploratory study to practical reform

Abstract

This presentation will give the general information about the nursing and midwifery workforce in China and the brief introduction of Peking University School of Nursing. It will focus on the midwifery development in China through identifying the main problems in the development of professional midwifery in China and presenting the two studies on the policy development of midwifery and the construction and management of midwives' core competence as well as the comprehensive development of midwifery policy, education and industry organizations.

Biography

Dr Lu Hong is a professor at Peking University School of Nursing. She takes leading roles in midwifery training capacity building and standardization setting for maternal health services, and is engaged in facilitating structural reforms of the maternal and child health care system in China. She is Expert Committee Member of Chinese Maternal and Child Health Association and also an invited Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right (SRHR) Consultant by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). She has been awarded Most Cited Chinese Researchers by ELSEVIER (Nursing) from 2014 to 2017, and the First Prize of the 5th Chinese Nursing Association Technology Award in 2017 (The research project of Strengthen Midwifery to Save Lives and Promote Health of Women and Newborns).
