Twilight Workshop - Inclusion by Design

How can we develop a view of our students and schools that is inclusive, purposefully designed and gives all students access to high quality education at their local school?

Our panel will discuss the questions and dispel the myths surrounding inclusive schooling practices.

Presentations by:

Deb Dunstone, Assistant Director-General, Disability and Inclusion with the Department of Education, Qld.

Deb has enjoyed a long and successful career with the Department of Education and is currently leading the whole of agency response to the Queensland Disability Review as the inaugural Assistant Director-General Disability and Inclusion.

An experienced Regional Director, Assistant Regional Director and School leader, Deb has a deep understanding of the work required to lift student improvement to ensure every student is succeeding. The recently released Inclusive Education policy positions Queensland to ensure that all students are welcomed, engaged in learning and achieving at their local state school.

Deb is passionate around leading an inclusive state education system and will give participants the opportunity to hear key information first hand.

Kenmore State School:

Kenmore State School is committed to continuing the journey towards a more inclusive approach to schooling. The principal and school team members will describe the process of moving to a more inclusive model of education and talk through the challenges, mistakes and benefits for all children.

Mabel Park State High School:

Our effort, our achievement, our future. The Mabel Park team is committed to ensuring that every student is achieving. They will describe the learning opportunities available for students and teachers on their inclusion journey.

Kedron State High School:

Inclusion is about all students having their learning needs identified and catered for. Often students who are significantly academically advanced are easily forgotten in terms of meeting their specific learning needs. Kedron SHS will share their approach to this challenge.
