Principal speaker

Dr Leah Barclay

Join us at the EcoCentre to celebrate Griffith University Sustainability Week with our next forum, Listening to Changing Climates, presented by Griffith's own Dr Leah Barclay.

Dr Barclay will be sharing with us her research on ecoacoustics, merging art, science and technology to harness the power of sound to preserve the planet's waterways. Examples will include communications between fish, turtles and other aquatic life beneath the water's surface. These works draw on environmental field recordings, data sonification and immersive sound diffusion. Leah's work is multi-platform in nature and involves long-term engagement with communities in locations ranging from the centre of the Amazon Rainforest to remote river systems in South India, creating complex sonic environments that draw attention to changing climates and endangered ecosystems.
