This group of artists collectively gravitates towards drawing and body - navigating the terrain of the model/artist relationship and self-portraiture. Confidently positioning themselves and the life model at the centre of the work, they wrangle with the moral, ethical, gendered and classed politics that are present when performing bodies inhabit the studio. Taking RB Kitaj's 1976 caveat against rote academicism as its title and mantra, this show presents 21 contemporary drawing students' responses to the theatre of life class.
