ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS: Steven Attard, HOD (Curriculum) – Digital Learning Systems at Southport State High Independent Public School (SSHIPS). After earning an Honours Degree Business Administration Steve emigrated from Canada and obtained his Master of Teaching at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Steve joined the SSHIPS team in 2014 where he has held various roles teaching Mathematics, Science, Business, STEAM, ICT and Soccer. In his current position as the Head of Department- Digital Learning Systems, Steve focuses on empowering staff and students in the development of their 21st Century skills, and LMS use. Outside of school, Steve loves being outdoors, surfing, going to the beach, hiking, camping and participating in sport. When not outside, he enjoys cooking and socialising with friends! AND Rachel Cureton, Head of Professional Learning at Southport State High Independent Public School (SSHIPS). Rachel has been a teacher at Southport State High for 13 years, teaching Legal Studies and History. During her time at SSHIPS, Rachel has held various leadership roles including leading schoolwide digital learning initiatives, Business Head of Department, STEAM and pedagogy coaching before taking on her current role as Head of Professional Learning. Rachel is passionate about empowering teachers with high impact teaching strategies that engage and optimise the learning of all students. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator and was a finalist in the Australian Education Award's for Department Head of the Year in 2020. Outside of school, Rachel enjoys travelling, reading and swing dancing.


OVERVIEW:

Learn from Southport State High School, Independent Public School and recent winner of the Excellence in Innovation in Curriculum Design category of the 2020 Australian Education Awards. Presented by Steven Attard, HOD (Curriculum) - Digital Learning Systems, and Rachel Cureton, Head of Professional Learning, you will learn how this school identified an opportunity to innovate education through the implementation of a schoolwide digital curriculum initiative, using Blackboard's eLearn platform as Learning Management System (LMS) with the intent to have a 21st century curriculum delivery model to hone student's 21st century skills, refine and enhance the systematic delivery of the curriculum, engage students with 21st century skills needed beyond the classroom, and maximise the progress of every student by providing them with learning anytime and anywhere.
