Dr Fiona Foley
Australian history has been hidden and denied to its citizens in the curriculums of Australia. Its ripple out effect means the vast majority of the population are ignorant about Aboriginal sovereign nations. I make art to disrupt those silences and engage in Australian history. My focus has been on a piece of legislation titled The Aboriginals Protection and Restriction of the Sale of Opium Act, 1897. Making art is a political act. As an Aboriginal researcher I give voice to the voiceless through art and my publications.
