Perspectives: Asia | Air Canoe - Connecting Northern Oceania

Air Canoe is a major project featured in the upcoming 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT10) in Brisbane, Australia. The project is focused on the vast and diverse Northern Oceanian region of islands and atolls usually known as Central "Micronesia'. It reclaims Indigenous Islander peoples' connections to and relationships with water, land and skies - as well as to the past, present and future - through contemporary artistic re-workings of culture, history and technology. Air Canoe also responds to the ongoing history of military and colonial domination in a place where even airspace is colonised. Join Stefan Ambruster along with co-curators, Ruha Fifita and Emelihter Kihleng, and Katerina Teaiwa to reflect on the role that cultural projects play in raising awareness about the history and vibrancy of this very little known region.
