Workshop 1 National competitive grant schemes for Health and Medical Research

A two hour workshop, for Griffith University's early to mid-career health and medical researchers who are seeking success in national competitive grant schemes.
Key learning outcomes:
• An improved understanding of ARC, NHMRC and MRFF funding strategy and principles, and the rapidly evolving funding arrangements for health & medical and basic biomedical research in Australia
• The capacity to approach the different funding opportunities with proposals that are responsive to:
o Broad HMR funding policy
o The requirements of specific schemes
• Knowledge of the funding mechanisms deployed by the funding agencies, and what these mean for the task of writing competitive applications
• How to write proposals that are tailored to each funding body and its peer panels: Shaping the case for significance, innovation, and impact
o Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research
o Assembling a competitive team (including end-user considerations)
o Writing a compelling case for funding
o Turning your existing proposal to face another funding opportunity/funder
Workshop 2 - Readiness for success

A follow-up session to Workshop 1, for those GU researchers that are yet to be named on a major grant. For this, the key learning outcomes are:
• The changing funding landscape for a career in research
• How and when to lead
• Leading and mentoring practices
• How to put forward a competitive track record
• Writing techniques for fellowship applications
• Forming and leading teams for project grants
