In the Pacific islands region, issues of geostrategic competition and climate/environment concerns are becoming increasingly enmeshed. Whilst there is a lot of concern about how China is operating in the region, little attention has been paid to what this means when it comes to conversations about the climate change crisis. This research project went some way to address this gap using a mixed methods approach to interrogate the extent to which Chinese engagement does or does not align with Pacific national and regional priorities when it comes to climate change.
