The Foundations of University Teaching (FUT) program is designed for staff who are new to teaching, moving from research to teaching, or wanting to refresh their teaching approaches. The FUT program will support participants to develop foundational learning and teaching capabilities needed to be a contemporary university educator. Participants will engage in critical reflective practice and planning for future enhancements in practice.
Topics explored include:
Engaging Active Learning In this session, we will explore student-centred teaching approaches that engage students in active learning, including strategies for large and small classes in on-campus and online teaching modes.
Enabling Assessment and Feedback In this session, we will explore effective assessment and feedback approaches, including strategies for giving oral and written feedback on student ideas in class and on submitted assignments, and ways to support peer feedback and student self-reflection.
Cultivating Inclusive Communities In this session, we will explore approaches for cultivating respectful and inclusive learning communities, including strategies for setting up psychologically safe and supportive learning environments and managing challenging student behaviour.
