The Enigmatic Power of Gendered Institutional Norms

The Enigmatic Power of Gendered Institutional Norms

Principal speaker

Professor Yvonne due Billing

Drawn from a study of Scandinavian Managers, Prof Yvonne Due Billing's presentation will challenge the fatalism of claims that management jobs are wholly constructed according to male norms, creating difficulties for women attempting to occupy such positions. The literature on gender and management tends to caste women as victim to these dominant portrayals. Yvonne calls for more sophisticated ways to interpret women's experiences in the field of management to enhance our understanding of the complexity of everyday organisational processes.

Yvonne Due Billing extends an open invitation to scholars and other interested folk to attend an interactive discussion session which will follow her introductory talk. The forum will allow participants to debate this contemporary issue. Dr Ngaire Bissett will chair the session.

Morning tea will be provided.
