How "red' has Asia-Pacific art been over the past 100 years? This lecture draws on a new study, Soviet Socialist Realism and Art in the Asia-Pacific, examining the overlooked influence of Russian Socialist Realism across the region. Focusing on China, Vietnam, the Koreas, Japan, Southeast Asia and Australia, it explores why this visually powerful tradition is often dismissed and argues for greater recognition of its artistic and historical significance.
