Principal speaker

Mr Rainer Petek

Organisations are increasingly confronted with unpredictable turbulence and increasing complexity. The skilful handling of the 3 U's-the unknown, the unexpected and the uncertainty-has become a key competence for successful change processes in companies, areas and teams. A world of permanent change demands a departure from the idea of being able to control the future with plans and recipes.

In this seminar, Rainer Petek, extreme mountaineer, professional mountain guide and change expert, invites us to confront the thought and action framework of executives and academics with the thinking and acting practices of the extreme climber. Combining memorable stories with impressive images, Rainer will provide insights into developing strategies for successfully managing change and uncertainty. Topics will include: recognising opportunities with new perspectives; finding new ways into the future; developing safety in dealing with uncertainty; leaving the comfort zone as a team; and realizing sustainable success in uncharted territory.

Rainer Petek is a founding partner of 3ULeaders, a consultancy based in Salzburg, Austria. Since 1988 he has worked in strategic change and organisational development focused on creating new forms of leadership and organisational collaboration. Rainer has authored and co-authored seven books, most notably The Nordwand Principle: How to manage uncertainty. He is a lecturer in the Executive MBA Program at the Danube University Krems. At the age of nineteen he climbed the north face of the Grandes Jorasses, one of the most difficult walls in the Alps. As a mountain guide, Rainer Petek was one of the few professionals guiding on extreme climbing routes. Rainer is the keynote speaker at the inaugural Australian Intrapreneurs Summit which will be held in Brisbane on 14 March 2019.
