Seeing painting in a visual culture saturated with digital images ensures a muted assignation for fast viewing and endless scrolling. McLeans paintings call attention to an engagement with space which simultaneously suggest a withdrawal from it in a conventional sense.
When we slow down, we begin to look at how information structures experience, questioning ideas of engineering and not so much of expression. Here, each painting is in proportion to the iphone and computer screen, and McLean navigates the flattened image, encouraging us to move beyond looking; to gently engage with what we see.
